The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) announced last June 8 the launch of  this year’s Search for Best Business Idea and Development Awardees (BIDA) from among college students, with the theme “Creating a youth culture of entrepreneurship.”

Now on its sixth year, the BIDA competition is organized by the PCCI’s Education Committee in cooperation with Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Philippine Council of Deans and Educators in Business (PCDEB), Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC), Philippine Association of Colleges and Schools of Business (PACSB), and the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities (PACU).

The BIDA Award aims to recognize creative and innovative products, technology, or services using local, indigenous and recycled materials; develop entrepreneurial culture and a sense of nationalism among Filipino youth, and promote entrepreneurship as a major component of the country’s Sustainable Economic Development (SED) program.

The competition is open to all college students enrolled in business, science and technology, and related programs.  Their entry should be endorsed by their respective college deans or university administrators.

There are four award categories:  Food, non-food, services, and technology.

The deadline for submission of entries is August 31.

In last year’s competition, the Batangas State University (BSU)  won in the food and services categories with  entries entitled “Bangus Loaf” and “Degrees and Angles Rental Center,” respectively. In the Non-Food category, the Centro Escolar University (CEU) won for its “Oregatol” business project.

“Business is the engine of progress, and we at PCCI want the development of our youth to start at an early stage, transforming them into creative young entrepreneurs across the country,” PCCI Chairman for Education, Dr. Eduardo Gutierrez-Ong said.
