New franchising opportunities announced

In the recent months, a number of local companies announced business expansion plans through the franchising route.

One of these is Global Pinoy and Remiitance Services (GPRS), a one stop consumer and remittance service firm providing bills payment, local and interntional remittance, airline ticketing, hotel and resort booking, and loading center/unified loading services to customers.  GPRS, accredited by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, currently covers 19 countries, including Austgralia, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, Oman, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates and the United States.  It has an online (web-based) transactional and reporting facility linked with major banking networks like Bancnet, Megalink and Expressnet.  It also allows mobile phone load transfers to any Globe, Smart or Sun phone using only one SIM card.

Meanwhile, Farmacia ni Dok, a drugstore franchise, carrying generic, branded and natural medicines and personal care products, is also pushing for more franchise stores nationwide. Offering franchise packages from P99 thousand upwards, the company is now targeting expansion in Visayas and Mindanao.

Meanwhile, in Mandaue City, Tablea Chocolate Cafe announced franchising plans after opening its sixth store in 18 months. The shop is famous for sipping chocolate and traditional hot chocolate, Frio shakes, churros, champorado, sylvannas, layer cakes and crinkles. The owners of Tablea are eyeing franchising partners in Manila.

Other Cebu-based brands recently opened to franchisors are Dimsum Break, Golden Cowrie, Abba Travel, Munsterific, Body and Sole, Magic Melt, Islands Souvenir, Bo’s Coffee, Dessert Factory, Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes, Moon Cafe, Thirsty, Coffee Dream, Chikaan, Crunch Chicken, and Famcor Franchise Management and Executive Development Corp.

In 2011, the Philippine Franchise Association welcomed 16 new members, including  Bibingkinitan, Binalot, Blue Spirit, Hungry Juan, Kuya’s Fresh Lumpia, Magnolia Chicken Station, Mexicali, Monterey Meat Shop and Pinoy Ice Scramble.
