The winners of the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE’s) 2013 Productivity Olympics were honored at ceremonies held last October 24 at the Century Park Hotel.

 

The competition is held biannually to recognize micro, small and medium enterprises adopting best productivity improvement programs and in turn catalyze the improvement of their business performance and optimal use of resources. It is spearheaded by the National Workers Productivity Council (NWPC).

 

Ten enterprises won in each of the micro, small and medium enterprise categories under three major sectors:  agribusiness, services and industry.

 

The winners in agribusiness are:  Honey Bee Producers Multi-Purpose Cooperative in Calabarzon (micro-enterprise); San Rafael Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Multi-Purpose Cooperative in Western Visayas (small business); and Elim Agricultural Supply-Poultry Dressing Plant Northern Mindanao (medium enterprise).

 

For the industry sector, the following were cited:  Daet Food Association in Bicol (micro-enterprise); Goldwin Manufacturing Laboratories Corporation and Sunlight Foods Corporation from the National Capital Region (small firms); and Marcia’s Delicacies in Ilocos (medium enterprise).

 

Winning in the service sector are: Big Norman’s Garden Supplies and Services in Bicol (micro-enterprise); Almora General Hospital in the Cordilleras (smallfirm); and Davao Adventist Hospital in Davao (medium enterprise).

 

According to Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz, who led the awarding rites, “The Olympics provides a venue for our mSMEs to realize that they must incorporate, breathe and live competitiveness productive as strategies to achieve a win-win situation for both survival and resource managements.”

 

Companies which have successfully embarked on a productivity journey are better off in terms of overcoming the challenges posed by globalization and stiff market competition, she added.

 

A side feature of the event was a mini exhibit of the best products from the previous winners of the competition and other successful mSMEs in the country. 

 

The event also saw the launching of  the “Let’s Talk Productivity” advocacy platform of the DOLE showcasing the rewards of embarking on a productivity journey.
