SERDEF to host study visit of Bhutan local govt execs

Local government executives and officials from Bhutan  will visit the Philippines beginning May 26 until June 4 on a Study Tour Programme on Local Governance and Social Accountability.

Implemented by the Small Enterprises Research and Development Foundation (SERDEF) for the Institute of Management Studies and  Department of Local Government, Bhutan,  the programme aims to orient the visiting local executives to good practices, tools and procedures for just and democratic local governance and provide guidance in instituting social accountability  as a means to engage the participation of the community. 

The Bhutanese visitors will also be apprised of strategies in entrepreneurship and enterprise promotion for local economic development.

Aside from lectures, discussions and case studies, the programme will include observation tours to some of the model local government units in the Philippines, such as the governments of Olongapo City, Marikina City and Los Banos City.   

The participants will also make a courtesy call on the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

The study group consists of 11 government executives from various local government units of Bhutan.

Managing the program are Arlene E. Liberal and Teresita Santos.
