UP ISSI to hold TBII planning and setup workshop


A workshop on Technology-Based Business Innovation and Incubation (TBII) will be held on August 14 and 15 at the E. Virata Hall, UP Campus, Diliman, Quezon City.

The workshop will seek to  disseminate among Filipino technopreneurs, school administrators, government executives, and other stakeholders technology-based innovation and incubation models and practices that have proven successful in the ASEAN region and therefore encourage their set-up and promote their use.  Participants are expected to work together to formulate a strategic action program for TBI set-up.

The workshop is organized by the University of the Philippines Institute for Small-Scale Industries (UP ISSI) in cooperation with the Small Enterprises Research and Development Foundation (SERDEF), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Industrial Guarantee and Loan Fund (IGLF).

The line-up of speakers include DOST Undersecretary Amelia P. Guevara, DOST Undersecretary Fortunato de la Pena, and DTI BSMED Director Jerry Clavesillas.

Other resource persons invited to share their expertise and insights are Gamaliel F. Itao, president of Mechatronics Corporation; Jovito Rey E. Gonzales, head of the Investment and Business Operation Division of DOST Technology Application and Promotion Institute; Dr. Enrico P. Supangco, technology business incubator (TBI) head of the Center for Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship in UP Los Baños; Dr. Francisco Cuaresma, director for the Agriculture and Food TBI at the Central Luzon State University; Atty. Liza D. Corro, dean of the DOST-UP Cebu TBI; Dr. Ma. Josefina P. Abilay, regional director of DOST MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) Region; Dr. Luis G. Sison, TBI project leader of the DOST-UP Enterprise Center for Technopreneurship; Mercedes M. Barcelona, senior manager at UP-Ayalaland Technohub; and Dustin R.J. Masancay, associate director of Ideaspace Foundation.

On the second day, August 15, workshop participants will visit TBIs at  the National Engineering Center, UP Diliman; UP-Ayalaland Technohub on Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City; and the Philippine Economic Zone Authority.
