Opening/Day 1 of “The Internet and Your Biz” Course: Some scenes

“The Internet and Your Business” Course opened last Friday, November 21, at the ground floor of the UP Institute for Small-Scale Industries (UP ISSI) Building, attended by some 18 participants, mostly from the small business sector.

SERDEF organized the training to help micro and small entrepreneurs leverage their business through the application of IT and Internet tools for promotion, marketing, operational, organizational and financial innovations.

SERDEF President Paterno V. Viloria delivered the welcome remarks, while SERDEF RIC Arlene Liberal led the prayer for a successful and fruitful training program.

An exercise on leveling of expectations followed, moderated by Program Manager Tes Santos, in order to clarify the aims and objectives of the training and make sure these are at sync with what the participants have in mind.

International trainer and consultant Dr. Eduardo Q. Canela, who  handled the lectures and hands on exercises, began with an overview of Net surfing basics:  Google Storming and new business ideas, where he introduced surfing “cheatsheets” guaranteed to make even a newbie a good and fast surfer.

Dr. Canela also covered emailing, formulating  online business strategies, marketing via social media, rapid online market surveys, buying and selling services in the Net, and  best practices in the Net.

He concluded Day 1 with exercises for using internet team collaboration and online trading, while providing tools and applications   with which participants could practice at home during the weekend.

“Internet and Your Business” is the second of a series of special short-term training programs that SERDEF began to implement this year.
