The book Entrepreneurship: Study and Practice(ESP) was presented yesterday, December 15,  at ‘soft launching’ ceremonies held at the Executive Lounge, U.P. Institute for Small-Scale Industries, UP Diliman campus.

Written by Drs. Paz H. Diaz and Herminia R. Fajardo and published by the Small Enterprises Research and Development Foundation, ESP is a text and reference book for students of entrepreneurship in both formal and non-formal education settings.

It has two parts.

Part 1 lays down a theoretical foundation for entrepreneurship and the connection between entrepreneurship and nation-building; discusses the entrepreneurial personality and competencies; and explains the responsibilities, risks and rewards awaiting those who take the “less travelled road” of putting up their own enterprise. The content goes through various entrepreneurship options from manufacturing and trading to e-commerce and home-based activities

Part 2 deals with the practice of entrepreneurship — from identifying, choosing, planning, and registering the business to operating it as it goes  through its survival and growth stage and terminating it.   This part also discusses emerging trends that impact on the practice of entrepreneurship, including globalization, information technology, the green economy, and the call for inclusive growth.

ESP is a companion book to Windows to Entrepreneurship: a teaching guide which the SERDEF published in 2013 as a tool for entrepreneurship teachers to more effectively teach the subject.

In her remarks during the event, Dr. Fajardo, who is also a member of the SERDEF Board of Trustees, expressed the hope that the book will help individuals, organizations, schools, and communities excel in creating an enterprise culture and enhancing entrepreneurial capacities in all sectors and levels of society.

SERDEF President Paterno V. Viloria, on the other hand, acknowledged the efforts of the SERDEF Research and Information Committee in translating the book from concept to reality and thus contributing to the Foundation’s mission of promoting entrepreneurship.

He added that the book is dedicated to all students and practitioners of entrepreneurship who have the potential to create a better future for themselves and their families, their communities, and country.
