Entrepreneurship advocates and crusaders, development specialist and service provider, faculty, student, government, and entrepreneurs are invited to attend the First Distinguished Entrepreneurship Leadership Public Forum, featuring two accomplished women entrepreneurs, at the UP Institute for Small Scale Industries (UP ISSI) on Wednesday, May 16 at 1:30 p.m.
The Forum is organized by the UP Institute of Small Scale Industries (UP ISSI) and the Small Enterprise Research and Development Foundation, Inc. (SERDEF) on the occasion of its 2012 Annual General Membership Meeting.
The main speakers are Cynthia Villar and Myrna Bituin,who trailblazed the building of an enterprising Philippines with their Filipino brand of “SIPAG, HUSAY at TIYAGA. “
Mrs. Villar is the president of Villar Foundation , a non-stock, non-profit organization working to help the less-privileged Filipinos break away from the clutches of poverty . A true icon in the cause of Filipino entrepreneurs, she spearheads the incubation and growth of social enterprises in Las Pinas City particularly the informal settlers. She is a former member of the House of Representatives and championed the cause of NGOs and other micro and small business development institutions . She has served as a member of the UP Board of Regents.
Mrs. Bituin owns Betis Crafts, the country’s largest and most successful furniture design and manufacturing firm. She is a multi-awarded furniture entrepreneur, having won the Golden Shell, Women Helping Women, Most Outstanding Kapampangan in Business, 2009 National Outstanding OTOP and Top 10 Outstanding Entrepreneurs awards. . She is currently a Trustee of the Philippine Exporters Confederation, Inc. (PECI) and heads the Association of Furniture Exporters under PECI.
As opening speaker, UP President Alfredo Pascual will articulate his vision of transforming the University of the Philippines as a Great Entrepreneurial University in the 21st Century with his One UP One University Flagship Initiative .
