A symposium-workshop on Empowering People and Organizations for Excellent Results (E-POWER) will be conducted by the UP Institute for Small-Scale Industries (UP ISSI) on April 10 and 11 with the theme “Move on together, Empower SMEs to ASEAN 2015.”

This is the second of a series of conferences organized by the UP ISSI, jointly with the Small Enterprises Research and Development Foundation (SERDEF) and Quality Partners Company, Ltd., designed to help small businesses cope with the opportunities and challenges arising from the emergence of the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) by 2015..

Talks and discussions at the E-POWER forum will tackle the effects of the ASEAN integrated market on Philippine businesses and measures to help small and medium enterprises face the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities of a no-boundaries trading regime in the region.

One measure to be presented is the SUGOD (move on together) program for total quality improvement, a Filipinized system for enhancing enterprise competitiveness that effectively harnesses employee engagement and cooperation towards increased productivity and sustained growth.

Other co-sponsors of the forum are: the Department of Trade and Industry – Bureau of Competitiveness, Department of Labor and Employment – National Wages and Productivity Council and National Conciliation and Mediation Board, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Department of Science and Technology – Technology Application Promotion Institute, and Manila Community Services, Inc.
