The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) is now requiring schools offering degrees in entrepreneurship to put up business incubation laboratories.

Typically, these laboratories is open not only to student entrepreneurs but also to other start-ups.

The laboratories provide the following:

  • Business address for students and other start-ups
  • Facilities for business research, development and proto-typing
  • Business and office center that can offer basic internet access, office equipment for use in various business transactions, such as client meetings, business meetings, consultations, mentoring and video conferencing.

These facilities provide technical support to address the start-up’s legal, financial, marketing, operations, networking and technology applications needs.

Schools that have been able to forge collaboration with private institutions to build an incubation facility include University of the Philippines Diliman, Ateneo de Naga, Ateneo de Manila, De la Salle University Manila, and St. Louis University Baguio.

Big businesses have also partnered with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in setting up technology business incubation centers and so-called business accelerators.  Examples of facilities that have been set up are Ayala Foundation, Inc. TBI; IdeaSpace; UP DOST Open TBI-Diliman; DOST-Cebu inIT; Kickstart; Seed Asia; and Launch Garage.
